Reactive Speed Sign Data for August 2026
This histogram (link below) provides a summary of the Vehicle speed data collected by the Reactive Speed Sign (RSS) on Ilfracombe Road (by the Parish Hall) during the period 30/7/26 to 30/8/26 (excluding 13th & 14th August) when the speed sign was north facing on Ilfracombe Road i.e. looking away from the village square.
Of the 5,256 vehicles passing the RSS during this period (an average of nearly 190 per day) a number of drivers were recorded at speeds in excess of 30 mph, some up to 50 mph.
30-35 mph 395 vehicles
35-40 mph 50
40-45 mph 14
45-50 mph 4
This means that on 463 occasions a driver exceeded the legal speed limit ! (This equates to 8.8% of the total movements at this point on Ilfracombe Road when drivers are arriving in to the village.)
The Parish Council will continue to collect speed and date information and plans to review what steps can be taken to encourage drivers to slow down. The local Neighbourhood Police Team are aware of our ongoing monitoring of vehicle speeds within our village 30 mph zone.
The RSS will continue to be repositioned between 3 locations at regular intervals. (Stang Lane, Dean Lane and Ilfracombe Road.)
In the meantime please drive carefully.
